Protecting Your Oral Health
Twice-yearly oral health examinations allow your dentist to identify any dental issues affecting your teeth and oral structures and make a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your examination, your dentist will evaluate the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. These exams may also include dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Treating dental issues in their early stages can prevent further damage to your oral health and help you avoid more invasive and costly treatments, like oral surgery, later in life.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is a disease that can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. Your dentist will examine you for signs of this disease as part of your routine exam. Regular screenings allow the best chance of early diagnosis and treatment for an ideal outcome.
Oral Health Care Between Visits
Caring for your teeth at home is as important to oral health as routine exams and professional cleanings. To keep your teeth clean and healthy, brush them twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once daily.
Dental Hygiene Cleaning
During your appointment, your dental hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
First, they will use a scaler to remove tartar and plaque build-up. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque and thoroughly floss your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If you or your child are at a high risk of devloping tooth decay, your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
